The team arrest Charlotte, a stripper who blackmails influential men, and Cade McWeaver, a Booz Allen software engineer and capture their handlers. Westfield informs the White House that Balakin’s sources also include high ranking press and TV editors, judges and members of Congress. It is decided the congressional assets be forced to resign and become CIA sources in exchange for not being prosecuted for treason. Joe also discovers that McWeaver and his handler, a Chinese MSS contract agent, were activated by Professor Richard Ealy, a communist sympathizer, who is arrested. Before sending him to Guantanamo Bay, Kyle urges one of the captured handlers to divulge who planned the attack on Joe. Talking with Neal, Joe remarks that for the last fifty years the United States enemies have been utilising useful idiots like the assets they captured to target and weaken them.
